Good entertaining game tonight, with City just losing 0-2. Playing a mixture of first team regulars, reserves and youngsters City competed well, but Margate were just too strong and quick on the night. A fast flowing game, with chances at both ends, with Margate having the best of the passing and being that much quicker to the ball.
A goal in each half, first coming after about 20mins when a raid down the Margate left saw a cross deflected over and scrambled in at the far post. City were unlucky not to equalise when an overhead kick from Callum McGeehan from a long throw by Michael Seager went just wide. City then had a goal from Royston Gough correctly ruled offside. Margate had other chances and were particularly dangerous at corners and free kicks around the box, but Danny Wrench in goal had his best game so far, and an unfamiliar looking back four including Ben Smith at centre half coped well under some immense Margate pressure. Playing with just Royston up front first half, he was often isolated and continually swamped by the Margate defence. The City midfield 5 were defending deep leaving a lot of space between them and him, allowing Margate to clear up at the back without too many problems. However, he nearly got through towards the end of the first half but the ball over ran and the keeper collected it. City's main weapon was Seager's long throw, but the Margate defence coped well with this and defended strongly.
A few changes around half time saw a bit more action in the City front line, Karl Williams and Dan Bonnywell joining Gough to add a bit of support. It was Margate though, that had the better of the early chances. Wrench pulled off a good save from a free kick, one of many won around the box. Bonnywell had a couple of chances, but following one the keeper released the ball very quickly and Margate broke down the other end, again Wrench pulled off a fine save but couldn't prevent the rebound from going in.
Some unfamilliar faces to me in the City squad tonight, so apologies for not knowing who some of them were, but left back in second half (Deano) looked good, as did the number 5 at the back and the right back - number 2. Perhaps the club would be good enough to put some names to the numbers! It was also good to see Rob Gutsell playing again in his normal be everwhere and go for every tackle style. I think that Dave and his staff would have learned quite a lot about some of the reserves and youngsters tonight, and also something about some of his more 'senior' players as well!

Oh well..... 5 was Jamie Kemp, 2 Dan Langiano and the left back, assuming you weren't referring to our usual left back who it seems can now score from a greater distance than he can throw the ball, was Dean Brockman - all three of whom are 17! Thanks to Rafa for providing me with all the details of the players after the game.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE
