Cheers to MD for letting me know last week's game was off before I travelled and for this week, does anybody know where Staplehurst's pitch is? A road name would be a bonus. Cheers.

Well that game is best soon forgotten from a footballing view, but best well remembered in case any complacency should creep in.

On a very big pitch, City probably put together their least impressive performance of the season so far. Slow off the mark, lacking sharpness and with their normal movement and passing game deserting them, a draw was perhaps a fortunate outcome. Had Staplehurst been much better in front of goal particularly in the first half, they might have nicked the victory. Sure, City can point to the penalty claim turned down towards the end, but in truth, they hadn't really done enough to deserve the win.

City took the lead in the first half, from the unlikely source of Michael Seager, a high floated cross into the area from not far inside the Staplehurst half eluded both the keeper and Dave Read who both attempted to reach the ball, and went straight in. A lead probably not deserved as Staplehurst had created the clearer and better chances in the first half up to then.

The second half started with Read and Royston Gough both having chances to stretch City's lead, and a period of pressure with 4 corners in quick succession but the home defence stood firm. Staplehurst then had a goal disallowed for offside, and forced a good save from Danny Black. A triple substitution by Dave, in an effort to inject some width and some urgency in to City's unusually lacklustre play, back fired when Ian Hossick limped off injured, and City were down to 10 men. Staplehurst got the equaliser, when a fierce shot was well parried by Black, and as he scrambled to keep the ball from going over the line, the Staplehurst forwards claimed the ball had in fact gone over and from his central position the ref allowed the goal, (Didn't we score one like that the other week? They say things equal themselves out over a season!). There was the penalty claim late on, and either side could have snatched a winner in stoppage time, but in truth, a draw was probably a fair result.

Two other things to mention, the ref had a decent game, and that Staplehurst were very friendly and hospitable hosts.

Put that one down to experience, and remeber that they say - good sides get points and victories when not playing well and that was certainly us today.

Maybe the players read the programme notes , which referred to us as being champions elect. well that worked in staplehuirst favour today

Today’s slip up has let AFC Sheppy and The University of Kent back into the title chase who have two games in hand and if they win those they will have 22 points just one behind us. Let’s hope it was just the season of goodwill and we get back to our winning ways in the New Year. We can’t afford to many of the game like to day, other wise it will be a struggle at the end of the season.
Maybe University of Kent will fall away as the did at the end of last season

The Uni always end up with loads of games in hand and if you look at the unusually quiet and wheelie bin-free streets around Hales Place at this time of year, you'll see why. They're all back in their own towns.
