Best Positions

With a number of the team, seemingly able to play in different positions, I wondered if we were to identify their best positions, it might help Dave F formulate the 'ultimate' side from the squad....The players im thinking of are;

Scott Lawford
David Read
Tony Jackson
Michael Seager
Jamie Maxted
Jon Salter
James Brooke
Dan Bonnywell
Callum Mcgeehan
Ashley Tuite

All of whom seem to have played in more than 1 position (some more than others!! Let the debate begin.....

Why not just add Danny Black's name and Dave F will be able to play        4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with those players.

What a let down.  I clicked on here to say doggie.  Nevermind.  Laughing

Not quite what I meant!! Im not necessarily saying that the 11 I wrote should play together, just which position each player is best in.

Nobster....are you Danny Black? You just cant seem to let go!!
cityaddick

Mine used to be 'The Lotus' prefer 'The Tortoise' in my senior years....

Dukey boy, know what you meant but with 10 out field players it was easy just to add myself, sorry the keeper.

Quite partial to the Seventh Posture personally. Laughing

Can we keep it clean please gents, we are a family club and we wouldn't want the Bridge Parish Council crew to think otherwise!

Right, to the football.

Good point you raise Duke and one that Dave F has surely pondered for a long time. I think that the squad is overloaded with central midfield players but this is made easier by the fact that Dave Read can play anywhere down the spine of the team (including centre-back......hey Nobster, let the previous lack of pace comment go please!) and Callum McGeehan can play in the middle or down the right.

John Salter is great on the ball and has the potential to be a very versatile player. Tony Jackson has looked solid at both left and right full-back although I have already made my views clear about having natural left-footers down the left side.

As for the starting line-up, that's Dave F' call, but did anyone see Chelsea's full-backs bombing forward on Tuesday night against Bordeaux (I think?);

4-4-2 (any combination of)

Black / Wrencher (deserves a go)

     Jackson/Butcher          Lockhart    Salter             Maxted

    McGeehan/Gower    Brooke/Smith/Tuite/Gutsell    Lawford

                                     Read    Gough

I think that Bonnywell (inj), Hodge (inj), Hossick (away) and Fittall are all out of the picture at the moment and I haven't seen enough of Seagers. Salter might also be a sicknote and if that's the case Read can play at centre-back and I might even be tempted to play young Callum up top! ...........actually 4-3-3 might be easier with Read playing centre-forward and and perhaps the super versatile TJ can play at centre-back. I sympathize now with Dave f, this management stuff is not as easy as it looks.......!!!!!!

looking forward to seeing what line-up Rafa comes up with (as long as it is not that 4-3-2-1 thing!)

Hopefully by Saturday tea-time it will be played 3 won 3!

.............................................black.................................................

        Jackson         Lockhart                  Reed                Maxted

                  Baker               Smith               Lawford

                  Gough            Mcgeehan           Gower

Saturday!

As for positions, im not sure it matters!

The Corpse.....a useful overview of your thoughts.

I like the team playing 4 - 3 - 3 (with a goalie!!!)

With the pace we have at full-back, any attack should become a 3 - 4 - 3 situation which has essentially won Man Utd untold games last season.

Guru Nanak should provide a useful test and I look forward to seeing the game and rating the players on Sunday.

I wonder if any of the coaching staff have got the bug for wanting to play yet....Only 1 candidate for me and its not Dave F, think he should be left to ponder the many nuances that our dynamic line-up seems to offer!!
nobster

Corpse,
nice to see your team selection, after 14 games you still can't make your mind up. As for the lack of pace comment both you and Fan 11 must agree as you've both got him down as a centre back, i only thought he would be better in mid field.
Can only assume that the member of staff your talking about Duke is Dobbo Dobson as the pace Becksy showed for the head injuries was less than Ready's, (Sorry Corpse couldn't resist) but can he hack it at his time of life? Maybe he should have a run out in the development team first!

I bet that all managers and coaches are frustrated players who would rather be on the pitch! As for the City staff, there might be a pace issue if any of them were actually to play (god knows what the Nobster would make of it all!), the veterans team is the way forward for those blokes to re-live their playing days....at a nice gentle pace!!!

Pleased that Rafa Dave F reads the forum, playing Tony Jackson at centre-back seems to have worked a treat!
