Big Game Saturday

Here we go again then......

Scores on doors for the weekend and possible team line-up

                            Black

Baker        Lockhart       Hossick        Jackson

                            Brooke
               Smith                  Maxted

      Gower              Read               Lawford

Not my 11 I must stress but im just trying to 2nd guess Dave F......!

Score to be 4 - 1 Canterbury

Gower, Lawford, Read, Fittal (coming off the bench on his more than welcomed return).
Dr intreged

Black

Jackson      Lockhart          Hossick       Maxted

                             Read

                    Smith        Lawford

              Gower                Gough

                             Fittall

Subs: Baker, Gutsell, Brooke

In my eyes Read is a much much better centre midfielder then he is a Striker i feel sometimes his work rate and will power is wasted as a striker!
The Duke

Hmmmmmm a valid point I suppose but how much do you tinker with a winning formula?

9 goals in 2 games tells me it will be difficult to justify changing the forward line.....but then there is that debate about players playing in lots of positions.

Perhaps Mr Beckett, Dibbly Dobberson and Dave F should all pick a side each week and then draw it out of a hat? We could sell tickets to the team lottery every week and have a draw in the Plough and Harrow every Friday night as we muse on who our own starting line-up will be.
md093834

Me? I go for a 1-1 draw - symmetry with last year - Home Win, Home Win, Away Win, Home Draw......Champions!!!!
Hulk

I dnt think you can move read from from center forward at the moment as he is the link between the midfield-strikers. I also dnt think read has the defensive discipline to play dm, we would also lose his creativity going forward! Why should gough and fittall walk straight into the team when the forwards are bagging goals!??! Why have two dm on the bench,(gutsell, brooke) rather limits options.
fan1

how can you leave baker on the bench, he was our best player last week. Also wouldnt play hossick, too dodgy nothing personal but he does worry me. and it is a big game.

                           black

 baker           lockhart   jackson  maxted

                          read
                smith              lawford

            gower     bonneywell  fittal

I would take a chance on fittal as he would be influential in a big game, not fair on others maybe, but its about the team winning, not whats fair. i would start with Gutsell but still doesnot look fit to me and needs games, Hodge also would start, but i guess is still out injured, gough too I reckon will not be available so thats leaves seagers, brooke, tuite on the bench. i reckon 0-0
cityaddick

Dont want to get tetchy here  but fittal is spelt FITTALL and as for a start for him....bugger all to do with anyone but the gaffer...now I may be bias but he can change a game.... I know I know MD before you say anything.. SOMETIMES for the worse, but hey its entertainment.
Terry Nutkins

Word on the street is that Maxted is out for a while... as is Salter and Gough.

cityaddick

Well if Royston has had a tonsillectomy I wouldnt expect him to rush back, takes time to recover from surgery.
Mike13

What's this unusal pessimsm? A draw? Hey, this is a home match and we're going it!!! Personally the day is ruined already - tried to get an earlier ferry (after I read it was a Bridge match) and failed miserably. So I'm going to be in Canterbury sometime around 6 pm, just in time to find out who scored for the City. Ah well ...
Dr intreged

Word on the street is that Jackson, maxted, gough, salterand gutsell are all not available leaving the team a little short so a rethink is in need i go with the below!

                                Black

Baker         Hodge                Lockhart            Hossick

                             Read
              Smith                Lawford

           Gower       Fittall    Williams

subs: Seagers, dobson, fairclough, the Doc!

Thats a winner if i ever seen one!!
The Duke

Dr Intreged.....

An interesting line up.....and insider knowledge

You must be a CCFC squad member....I think im unearthing your true identity!

If not could do with you being a Left Back if Jacko is not around!!!

Have you ever donned the CCFC burgundy?
corpse

some entertaining comments as ever.

Hey Fan 1, Baker should be grateful to find himself on the bench, Brooke was man of the match against Betteshanger in the first game and then was assistant referee the next week against Kennington. If Rafa goes to form he will throw Baker the all black kit and a flag tomorrow!

Not sure about Hossick sitting in at left back? If the 'word on the street' (ceefax page 313 team news) is correct then Seagers is the obvious left back (fitness allowing). Can't believe that Tuite doesn't feature in any of the teams selected to date.....very decent player! Read will be fine up top but I have no problem with him playing anywhere in the spine of the team. Smith, Brooke (not too sit too deep) and Tuite will be fine in the middle.

As for selection (I am assuming Rafa's 4-3-3 preference!),

Wrencher (still deserves a go) / Black

             Baker            Hossick         Lockhart             Seagers
    (if not running line!)

                               Smith   Brooke   Tuite

                   Gower              Read               Lawford

Subs: Young Callum
        Welcome back Wayne
        Club Captain
One of the old gits (management)
Hodge (if fit) but he might prefer a runaround in the reserves)

Assuming unavailable: Gutsell, Jackson, Salter, Maxted, Young Troy, Gough,

Looking forward to seeing what Rafa comes up with but please not the 4-3-2-1 format which somebody mentioned earlier. I hope that Rafa goes out looking for 3 points....let's attack them from the start.
corpse

ps Could add the lad Williams to the bench but he might prefer a full game with the ressies.

Dr Intreged (great name by the way!), like your second selection better than your first (4-1-2-2-1), all too complicated and cramped!
ghost of hawk

Firstly I was wondering if it should be intrigued.
secondly are you all picking Harry or  Ade "the cat" Gower up front?
As I don't think he's as mobile as he once was.
And thirdly I had a tonsillectomy and I was not back in action for a month.
ghost of hawk

oh sorry,
the wife says it was a vasectomy.
cityaddick

Much the same thing G of H what with all the b******s that comes from your throat ..... Sorry couldnt resist that..!
nobster

Stroll on, after reading this lot i haven't got a clue who plays where, who's injured, who's sick and who's not!!
I'm going with the rotation system.

                                         Read
 Gower                Smith                   Brooke                Lawford

             Williams               Hossick                   Seagers

       Baker                        Lockhart                       Black

Manager; The Doc
Linesman; Becksy
Physio;  Dibly Doberson
Ref;   Rafa!

I'll give odd's 10-1 on Baker running the line.

Rafa, any chance of posting your pre match blurb on a Thursday or Friday rather than 11 am Saturday, your not giving us all a chance to pick your team!
Broadstairs101

Corpse - this is Canterbury City not Tyler Hill so maybe remember that when you're picking your teams each week, i guess everyone has favourites though. Can current form really be judged on the 2 out of 3 games that you have seen as i was informed that you was not at the latest game against Guru, am i right in thinking in a previous post you mentioned players shouldnt be picked based on previous matches or seasons?

P.S Awaiting the next anti-Baker posts you submit  Laughing
ghost of hawk

OH NO,
this is going to be uglier than a ginger stepson.
cityaddick

Maybe its just me but I have a theory on football.. that is... When I pay my £25-£30 or more to get into a match and I watch a bunch of overpaid players and a very well payed team of refs/linespeople my entrence fee gives me the right to have a pop at anyone who I may think isnt giving me value for my money.

At CCFC we walk in for nothing to a pitch thats been prepared by a bunch of unpaid volunteers ( of whom far to little is said ) and watch a bunch of guys playing for nothing ( when they can fit it in between thier paying jobs ) managed by a team who get nothing. Now they maybe playing in our clubs colours but they are doing it for nothing but the pride, and as such dont need knockers, diggers or team scorers giving them poor marks.. they know if they have had a bad game and thats enough.

So I say leave the team selection and dressing downs to Dave,( he aint doing a bad job so far ) all we have to do is turn up and back them ALL no matter who is on the pitch and remember they are there because they want to be not because someone has paid them to be.
corpse

Evening gentlemen.

City Addick - I absolutely agree with you. Lots of people give much of their time every week on a voluntary basis to CCFC and they should be applauded for that.  Great result on Saturday, well done Dave F and the lads.

Broadstairs 101 - thanks for your response. A few points,

1. Super performance on Saturday; Baker was outstanding throughout. He even tells me that he deliberately waited for the wall to jump before striking the ball into the net and he did run the line well for the final 15 minutes!!! Seriously tho,  I think you missed the point here - i have no issue with Baker but am intrigued by Rafa's rotation policy (which is certainly working at present with 4 wins on the trot) and comments on the forum that defenders should not be rotated but other players can.

2. Lawford and Tuite didn't have bad games did they?

3. I don't get your comment about previous form etc!

4. Sorry, you are right, i did miss the Guru game but you obviously know who I am so you might realise that i do see quite a bit of the players!!!!

5. Can I buy you a tea, a cheese and ham sandwich, and a penguin at our next home game because I have obviously upset you and would like to make up - I could even get the lads to sign a programme and a shirt, or fiddle the raffle so that you win a turkey or something like that! It is all just a bit of fun really!!!!!!!!!!!
ghost of hawk

firstly MD already fiddles the raffle.
And secondly I know who you are to so can I have a cheese sandwich AND a ham sandwich and maybe a king size marathon.
And thirdly off the point, I know there was a discussion on saturday as to when the red mist would descend and I would retaliate to cityaddick , but I hate to dissapoint loyal readers as I thought his line about my testicles was very funny.
corpse

Ghost, I don't think that the club could stretch to two sandwiches and a king size marathon! That said, I will see what I can do!
cityaddick

Cheers Gof H it certainly was said in jest we all know you never talk b******s you are after all the font of all things football. As for CORPSE,we all know who you are so bring a picnic hamper, I,m sure MD can fiddle it so you win a lovely ? bottle of Blue Nun to wash the sandwiches down.
corpse

ok Ghost and Addick, I will bring a big picnic with various sandwiches/rolls, some carrot cake, and a few caramel slices. We can save the wine for after the game! I will need some help in fiddling the raffle!!!

Signing out!
nobster

Corpse,
Signing out! Sounds like a final statement, are you leaving us?
The Duke

Cant believe the Corpse has been unveiled!!

Sod the sandwiched though.....im after a pint or 3!! Maybe if I get a goal saturday you might comply......?????
The Duke

In the words of Bjork.....its oh so quiet!!!

Time for my weekend prediction therefore:

City 4  Oakwood 0

Lawford to score with every shot he hits: seems to be in that kind of form at the moment!

Nearest answer wins the raffle!
Barry King

As Corpses true identity has been discovered, then maybe the powers that be, have issued a three line whip and advised him not to contribute to the unofficial forum
