Ok, but first competitive game, big build up and Betteshanger didn't make it easy for us, so credit to them. Plenty for Dave and co to think about before the next game.
Only playing one recognised forward at home was surprising, and with a bit more accuracy and luck from Callum's final ball, could have made some more clearer cut chances. Not sure if Betteshanger would consider themselves one of the weakest sides in the division, not on yesterday's showing anyway.
One win from one game though, off we go...............

Hey Crazy Fool, I am not sure that City actually struggled! Admittedly, it was not vintage football but could you really see Betteshanger nicking an equaliser?
I agree that only 1 up front makes things difficult; I believe that the formation was 4-3-2-1 which effectively means that there is little width unless the full-backs can get forward. Unfortunately, Sam Baker was impersonating a 'bandaged up' Terry Butcher and Tony Jackson is not a natural left-footer (well as he played) so where were the crosses into the box coming from?
Anyway, played 1 won 1.

Yep crazy fool, at one stage during the second half the first aid activity on the bench was more interesting than the football. It was great entertainment seeing 'Butch' bandaged up by a city member of staff and a Betteshanger fella. The funny thing was that he had a cut on his eye but strangely the bandage covered the top of his head and left the eye exposed! Did you notice that the Betteshanger physio also developed a limp as the game progressed so as not to be outdone by the bizarre number of casualities on the pitch! Poor Dan B took a whack to the head before he had even kicked a ball.
Another champagne moment for those who got there early enough was seeing the ref doing a full warm up in his suit!
Yes, good to see that the supporters voted with their feet on a public park and stood exactly where they chose.

Corpse, have to agree with crazy fool thought we struggled abit, back 4 lack of comms led to 1 goal, thought they could have nicked another at times. Nice to see someone worked out the formation or did you ask Dave? Definately needed more width.

Nobster and Crazy Fool; I think that the defence will be sound and the more the lads at the back play together the better they will become.
As for the formation Nobster, we had 5 central midfielders on the pitch so I am guessing that it was some sort of triangle formation 4-3-2-1.
Yes, Royston was isolated up front.

formations just get to confusing. maybe just settle for 4-4-2. and get the wide men involved and support to a lone stricker up front. maybe??????

i would go for a 4-5-1 which allows the wide men to be utilised and also having the extra man in the middle of the park to protect the back four or to support the lone striker.
Saturday there was just no width and this made it harder for mcgeehan and read to get into space.

yeah your right there was not alot of width but when we did get crosses in we caused them lots of probelms. more width sat more goals i think. would of been more comfortable

I am with the Crazy fool on a 4-4-2 formation. wide midfielders and full-backs to cross the ball for the two up front to score......if only it were so easy!

Got to go with lawford or maxted out wide left, smith's obv not a winger he should play centre mid. Need a right winger tho, maybe callum or gower (haven't seen him play really tho). any thoughts??

think should give lawford a go. he got pace and good left foot. gotta stick with players to let the confidence get up. dunno who right tho. tough one. maybe maxted or callum.

What about a good old 4-2-4 formation, after all you can't win without scoring and you get your width.(Just hope the midfield's fit)

442 Not sure who would play the wide right position it is a tough one! Perhaps you could push Baker to right midfield with Jackson at right back and Maxted at left back. Mcgeeham also but he is more effective and needed in the centre, with someone like Brooke or Smith. Tough decisions all over. Glad im not dave on a friday night!

Didnt think maxted could play as he is under contract to ramsgate and the kent county league dont allow professionals to play in they leagues.
