City v Otford

What an odd game, nothing like the game that was expected by most there I'm sure. I was right at the other end of the pitch when Otford thought they had scored a 3rd and so couldnt see but our report states that the ball was over the line so one can understand their anger, but you know through all that mess I actually thought the ref had a decent game, yes he made mistakes but dont we all, but it was so unlike Otford to lose it the way they did. In saying all of that I think one or two city players should be looking at themselves aswell Another 3 points ...but is it just me or is something not quite jelling yet...

We are in agreement once more cityaddick (or is that soon to be citydubaiaddick?). Three points is probably more than City deserved with a share being a fair reflection. Still 6 wins out of 6 and a team not really playing as well as we know they can (Sheppey game excepted) is a decent start by anyones standards.

I just cannot understand how people get so fired up by a game of football. Today was a glorious one weather wise and we saw so many people losing their cool! Now you'd never find me doing that or winding up the opposition.........

No, I don't believe it was the game most of us were expecting, after last seasons tough but close, but very sporting games between us  I think we were expecting everyone minding their p's and q's, polite 'after you sirs', and 'excuse me referee - but was that not a foul? Along with the odd 'I am sorry, did I catch you on the leg with my foot?' But , it was not to be, unfortunately. Still, there was plenty of incident and commitment from both sides, and dare one say - 'entertainment'.
Otford, will consider themselves unlucky, justifiably so, not to have come away without at least a draw, but in some respects, their loss of discipline is something they may well reflect on now and realise that is what lost them the game. (Sound familiar?, City vs UKC last season?).

As for the ref, he did ok, the players didn't always help, and he was in no position to give the goal or otherwise, that's life, it will happen to us before the end of the season I have no doubt, these things do tend to even themselves out over a season.

The real conclusion to draw is just how much everyone wants to beat Canterbury City and as we have seen before how teams raise their game to beat us.

But at the end of the day, it was a cracking match wasn't it!!!!!

Karthoarse...you aint wrong, it was after all the fuss a very entertaining game and that I guess is what we want ? or do we ?I just seem to always leave a little hungry.... I must just need more.    Still Shakey gave me a double today..... you know this old county aint half bad for a good sporting day out.

Can't imagine you decked out in denim singing along to This Old House and Green Door....still it takes all sorts.

Having read the report of the game on the Otford website (http://www.otfordunitedfc.co.uk/ then click on Latest Match Reports - First Team) it seems that things have calmed down now. Can't really argue with anything in the report - almost as if Norman and their reporter stood side by side comparing notes!

With my premiership loyalties very much not with Chelsea,  I hope that Otford's report of the game being at 'the Bridge' doesn't catch on!!

I was just gutted the raffle never had a fruit basket or a easter egg as a prize like there was at kingsmead every week.great match for my first game of the season and what a superb winner. Very Happy
ghost of hawk

it was probably the same result , did the big M win by any chance

No idea who won what! I didn't bother with the raffle because of the rumours that MD fiddles the results anyway.
No, seriously, I spotted some strange beer on offer and I thought: Knowing my luck I'll win just that and have to re-import that to Germany. Weired. Not my favourite refreshment at all. But you can't please them all ... and that also applies to the match and the ref.
socksy

The jury's out on the ref.  This is grass roots and if you don't ripple the net, it's likely the goal may not be awarded.  I'm certain of two things though.  One is that I wouldn't have wanted to swap places with the ref and the other is that anyone thinking of taking up refereeing would look at that game, the attitude of the Otford players and their hangers on and would forget any reffing ambitions.

I can understand their frustration, but as I say, you can't leave anything to chance and you can't use language like that towards anyone, nevermind the ref.  We may have been a bit naive last season and easy to push around, so it's nice to see we've got some added steel and we can stand up for ourselves, but let's hope we don't go too far the other way.

Sorry socksy but I must have misunderstood. There I was thinking you were the guy responsible for the video camera work and commentary at a number of recent games and more especially the cup final last season. I was clearly wrong as your quote suggests you must just take responsibility for uploading the footage to You Tube. So apologies for mistaking you for that foul-mouthed cameraman!!!
socksy

As tempted as I am to do a Cheeseman, this is no time for finger pointing MD!  I admit that I sometimes get carried away and mumble expletives under my breath, but that's about it nowadays.  As for the cup final, I just treated myself to a few loud ones cos it was a special occasion.
Mike13

... and who didn't get carried away at a match like Saturdays? I certainly didn't mutter "Oh dear!" when Otford equalized. But there's a wee difference between that and the stream of "f"s and "b"s that the Otford player used before and after he was sent off.
And anyway, Otford got an undeserved penalty and didn't get a goal they deserved (according to our report), so where's the problem? We still would have won if there would have been a ref with supernatural powers.
