City vs CrayA relatively easy afternoon in the wind and the rain for City. With a bit more clinical finishing the winning margin would have been far greater. Great first goal for Callum, good to see him back, after a typical defence beating powerful run from Sam Baker. Callum got his second, looping a header over the keeper from a long cross by James Brooke. Third was a well worked corner, flicked on by Justin Hodge and nodded in by Dave Read. In between the first two, Cray scored from a retaken penalty that appeared to have been generously given in the first place, the retake looked fair enough.
Ben Smith talked himself into the book as did Karl Williams, who huffed and puffed finding some space and good areas, but with no end result. Man of the match was probably Callum, Dave Read was everywhere and John Salter looked good at the back.
Referee wore a cap, yes honestly! and there were no linesmen! - sorry no assistant referees! obviously had run out of caps!!

Clearly a different story to yesterdays game then Karthoarse! Should we be concerned with three weeks to go and apparently no further fixtures lined up? It'll be interesting to see how the squad takes shape.

No, I don't think we should be concerned.
Neither the team that played in the first half or the one in the second, probably contained much more than 6 or so of what I would think is likely to be Dave's starting line-up when the real stuff starts.
A little worrying though was the speed and ease Maidstone seemed to cut through the defence, leaving our keeper well exposed.
Still, best to get this performance over and done with in pre-season.

who would you have classed form the players on satruday to be in daves starting line up for the first game of the season? second half we looke stronger and in my opinion outclassed maidstone, the one goal they scored was the only chance they had.

From watching the pre-season friendlies - I think dave should go with this team:
Danny Black, Sam Baker, John Salter, Ian Hossick, Tony Jackson, Callum Mcgheean, Ben Smith, Dave Read, Royston Gough, Wayne Fitall, Dan Bonneywell.
Any other opinions??

no doubt that won't be far off the starting team, I would not forget luke lockhart tho as he is a quality defender so maybe him in for salter? tough one for dave to call.

Looks good, that line up.
Is Rob Gutsell fit yet though? Would like to see him in contention if so.

Of course the spanners in the works are that Wayne is still suspended for
a couple of weeks, Rob Gutsell will be getting back to full fitness and Dan Bonneywell will have missed a good couple of weeks training due to the wedding. So a team for September 6th?
Black
Baker Hodge Hossick Seagers
McGeehan Smith Read Lawford
Gough Bonneywell
Subs:
Lockhart
Salter
Tuite
Gower
Williams
Of course we have no idea yet who has signed and so this side will probably change after today! .... and so it did!!!
