Discussion dead then.

The heavy handed and frankly over-controlling severance of this forum from the club, in my view, will have damaged it.  A silly post that was dealt with swiftly and should have ended with that threw everything into disrepute.  It even made the local paper, how stupid is that?

Ordinary fans now have no outlet for discussion of the football, or in fact any communication at all.   At this stage of preparation for the new season fans should have been looking forward with anticipation.  I can only speak for myself, but I feel mostly p'd off about the club now.

A forum is a community, and this one has been smashed.

Well done City.  I dare say the new forum will do OK, once the protocols of submitting one's views in a proper format to pass the censors have been finalised.
socksy

We're all still here, but have little to talk about.  Due to holidays and family commitments, some of us have missed quite a few of the pre season games and notched up a few brownie points for the serious saturdays ahead.

As for the forum shifting, I've now added this to my favourites and get here without going through the main City site.  The official site will probably see a decline in the amount of hits as a result of others doing the same.

The club's reaction may have been over the top, but where football's concerned, some of us go over the top a bit every now and then and we need sense talked into us.  I've been guilty of reacting to comments on here before and going too far when the red mist descends, but a little personal message from the powers that be would suffice and make me see the light.

As for Ghost Of Hawk's posting and link, he should have warned us that it included disturbing images of people from Thanet!  Laughing

Re the club !

I agree the club have been very over the top with this problem, could they not learn from other clubs who have had  the same problems like Herne Bay F.C. who have a Administrator who controls this.
Could the club not contact HBFC & inquire into this!

I miss looking at & having a laugh of what you all put on the Forum !

Last season i took some stick on the Forum well after my University boys beat the 1st in the cup but dont worry i am not with the University any more so i will be watching the City some weeks with my grandson & his father.

Come on City you are catching up all the other clubs on the pitch, so why not be the leader of the Forums !

Could some one at the club please contact me on 0780 1037 150 as i have been trying to put a add in the match day programme & be a corporate member for the last season & this.

Also i would like to offer some free awards for say ''player of the month'' for each of the teams.

Look forward to the Clubs reply.

Water Buffalo, Canterbury City football club requested that this forum be set up as the official Canterbury City Football club forum, back in February 2007.
But as you are now aware certain officials of Canterbury Football Club, have now deemed, that  this forum is as unofficial forum and no longer a part of Canterbury Football Club

Therefore, could I suggest that you direct your request re advertising in the Canterbury City programme directly to the chairman of the club, as this being an unofficial forum, they would not be looking at this site or would they!!

Yes of course they still look on here, as they interested and possible worried as to what is being posted.

Right!!!!!
Now I'm as confused as the defence appears to have been today against Maidstone.

Is this Canterbury City Football Club's forum, official or otherwise.
Are posts being monitored by the football club?
Are posts being edited or censored or whatever?

That last Admin post is as clear as mud!

Canterbury have stated that this forum  is now nothing to do with Canterbury City Football Club, which therefore means the club are no longer monitoring the posts

The posts will only be censored if there is foul language posted

Oh for heavens sake you lot let's just accept that the offending posting had just about every other word as a swear word. Given where the club is in terms of trying to appeal to the population of Canterbury, especially with the preferred site being announced, that sort of thing is no help. This forum still exists and there will be a new one set up through the club website. So take your pick of which one you choose to use. Personally I'm just fed up with the lack of footballing threads on here so will take my toys and pram and look elsewhere.

MD Thanks for your valued and entertaining postings over the past 9 months or so. Good luck with the new forum.

As you are aware there have been many posting in that time which have been near the mark and could be seen as offensive, but these I understand were removed with post haste speed, as was the one that appeared to have caused the issues that Canterbury City football club needed to act in a draconian way and removed the link from the website.
I would say they actual have scored an own goal with their actions.
I thought this country we had the freedom of speech,  it looks as though people can only say what is acceptable only to Canterbury Football club.   Embarassed

I think that's a bit harsh citysupporter!

I don't want to see that sort of language used when I log on, I personally fully support the club's stance in removing it. What I'm not so sure about is distancing the forum from the club.

When this cropped up before, I said then that the club know who these people are, and how to contact them, they should just be blocked from contributing. It must be easy to do, isn't it?

I have no problem with having contributions vetted before being posted, even if that means a delay in the posting going out. I am happy that the people who run the club are more than capable of knowing where to draw the line. For me it's not about freedom of speech, it's about a mindless minority spoilng it for the majority.

Anyway, we're still here, the forum is still going, we're unofficial, cast aside, abandonned, and when the new forum starts, this one will either sink or swim, when that time comes, I'm borrowing md's pram to paddle ashore!

As I understand it the issue was as much to do with concerns that the club would have been legally responsible for any libellous remarks and accusations that any poster chose to make rather than the individual poster themselves.

By making the forum unofficial the club can distance itself from this situation but not the fact that we are STILL free to say what we want. The language thing was the last straw.

If that is overzealous, draconian, unfair, heavy handed then call me overzealous, draconian, unfair, heavy handed because if I was volunteering to work hard for the best of the club then I too would want to avoid being required to defend myself against some legal bigwig just because some idiot with a grudge has posted something libellous.

Sorry, just couldn't keep away from this thread!!!

Okay, I've said it before and I'll say it again: How will the club prevent idiots to use any new forum for foul language and/or libellous remarks?
Only by relying on an admin that removes postings like that as swiftly as possible - like anywhere else on the web. And like it has happened in the now unofficial forum. So where's the difference? Where's the gain?
Skipper1 ist right: In this intertesting pre-season time this forum is now exclusively for insiders and that is a crying shame. And are we going to have competing City-forums in the near future? Surely the club is not quite big enough for something like that yet ...

Very difficult one this. I've had a look at the few other local forums that clubs have and Herne Bay have set up an automatic 'word changing' when a swear word is used. That could be one thing.

Everyone is suggesting having an administrator to police things. If that form of censorship is OK to the users and there is a volunteer to take on that additional work then that's fine. What's clear is that the club is starting to struggle to cope with the expectation levels that have been built up - I guess that is part of the reason for the plea on the website for additional helpers. So why don't we collectively step forward and offer our services and thereby free up others to do what is clearly important to us all such as keep the forum alive?

(PS interesting how the number of postings has actually increased since the forum became unofficial!)
