Faversham friendly

Considering the players available for selection the result was an achievement. Unfortunately my overriding memory of the game will be the foul language used by certain City players. It was noticed by both City supporters and those of Faversham who complained about it.
An amount of swearing is inevitable at football matches but at times it was excessive.  I hope this will be addressed otherwise the club, a family club, will lose a lot of goodwill.

Good point zhukov.

We all accept - I think - that football is a passionate game and an amount of swearing is kind of inevitable if not desirable, but today certain members of the team over stepped the mark, and I have to say, it has not been the City way thus far, and I for one would rather it not become the City way either. Comment please Dave.

As for the game itself, our back three struggled to cope with the Faversham attack after the first 15 minutes or so, and it is no coincidence, I feel that we had our best, most productive spell of the game when we changed the system to a back four and brought on the extra attacker. We seemed to have one or two players playing out of position today as well, presumably due to absences, which did not help. Still, the Deadly Duo bagged all the goals again, and from being 0-2 down coming back to 2-2 and should have then lead 3-2, the draw was a very creditable result indeed. I am sure we gave Faversham something to think about!

Well done City for the footballing performance particularly the second half, but let's have a lid on some of the language please.

I've got to stand up for the boys here, bad language is not,and will never be accepted in common chatter. However in heated moments of anger etc it comes out. One or two ( and only one or two ) of city players let that heated moment get to them, most did not. By far the worst language came from Faversham, a costant stream of foul language both from players and their management team, by contrast we were the lillywhites.

exactly, and as for the fans !!

Just to update all readers:

The offending  posting has been removed from the forum.

A good idea, Admin.

But to take the forum away from the decent folks that only wish to discuss the football is probably counter-productive.  Because the decent folks are the ones that will hopefully continue the agenda of this being a community club where things are done in the right way, and in order to do this we need a voice.

I hate to say that the bad language did start on the pitch yesterday, but I am sure that is something the management team can and will address quickly.

As far as football forums are concerned, this kind of thing is common, but can be controlled by the use of:
1.  Forum rules that everyone signs up for when they join, and if broken, the offenders are banned.
2.  Active moderation with edit permission - if a post is abusive or offensive, edit out the offensive bit but leave an explanation as to why.  That way people learn what is OK and what is not.
3.  Peer pressure by the decent majority.  In fact you can see that in evidence inside this thread.

There should be an outlet for responsible free expression, but if you cut that off, the alternative is an unofficial outlet where the gloves are off, and there is no restraint.  My feeling is that this would be a bad thing for the club.

Good and valued points skipper 1,

The Forum has been controlled well in the past and any offending posts    have been removed quicky from the forum pages.

I must say that in the 18 months the forum has been up and running, there has only been 5 occassions,  when posting had to be removed or edited, which goes to show that it is only a small minority, who abuse the forum pages

I had no control  over the decision to remove the link from the main Canterbury City Website to this forum.

Cheers, Admin.  I do hope the club will reconsider, and reinstate the link.

If the offending item was one posted by a regular we could probably have had a quiet word with the individual and explained our feelings -I would have done just that with Ghost of Hawk!!!

Still perhaps those of us who want to continue with posting their thoughts will do so although not from a link on the club website.

I can understand the sensitivities at this stage especially when you consider what is happening with the proposed ground. Hopefully once the dust settles we can reflect and go back to having a sensible forum.

[Perhaps one way would be just to make a restricted site open only to paid up club members?]

The offender poster joined the forum March 2007 and in that time had only made 12 posts.

Am i missing something.
this is a thread about the use of bad language from the players, and then a player who already has a bad disciplinary record in the club  posts a offensive word, so the club removes the link from the home page to punish the supporters that stand and listen to far worse language from the terrace.
I take it now that the club has discarded this player from the squad.
(md my link was artistic ,creative and stolen from the ramsgate forum)

and another thing ,
the stand the club has made is a gutless one , the first problem they have they walk away from it and distance themselves.
which is obviously why the people are up in arms about the club moving into the area. As down the line when there is a real problem it will be somebody elses fault, and they will blame another party.
on the homepage they state that they have removed the link due to one person.
this one person was one of their own players if they can't meet this problem head on then what future can there possibly be.
also don't understand why any legal advice should have been sort anyway, the admin removed the post within 8 hours overnight so they did a good job by acting so swiftly.
The club sitting behind the mask of protecting the kids should walk past any school yard and listen to what language is being used there.
so in summary sort out the language on the field before acting in such a childish way by taking away our ball.

I don't quite understand this and don't even know if it really is worth bothering.
In any forum you'll find individuals who don't know how to behave. That's why forums have admins - to remove the postings in question. But if a forum would (sort of) close down at any such time there would hardly be any forums left on the internet.
How does the club think they can protect a new forum on a new site? That's a bit beyond me - and even MD's suggestion of "paid up club members only" would not have helped in this particular case.
Maybe we should listen to the Karthoarse-advice and just move on.
karthoarse

Thank you Mike13, nice to be back again after the brief sortie to St Pauli.

The difficulty now is with the link blocked from the City website, you need MI5 to find the forum or the assistance of a new breed of IT expert, commonly known as a child!! Half the people who viewed and contributed probably aren't doing so at the moment and may not do so again, but let's move on and talk about the football, hence my Hythe post.

So your link was neither artistic nor creative - just stolen!!! Still it made me laugh.
