Maxted to Ramsgate ?

True or not its a sign of a developing team that the best players are chased by those clubs higher up the pyramid.

Well it looks like a done deal, I hope he is not the first of many or even a few come to that.
citysupporter

oh dear
looks like one player has given in to the pressures from another club, to sign for them.
No doubt  there will be some other players put under pressure to sign for Another Thanet club this afternoon

It will be the player’s loss:   if they stayed with Canterbury City FC, they will be part of history and a credit to the club.

Does not look like they have the commitment to the club.
cityaddick

Well he played and played well in our 3-0 win today, its not done till the fat lady sings and that fat lady may just have a touch of stage fright
skipper1

It's on their forum, not their official site, so who knows how true it is, plus it does say he has not signed yet.

Forum chatter is often off the mark.

Anyway, what a good result City had at Margate today.  Showed how far we have improved, more evenly matched last year.  This year we were the better team.

A very good win against Margate this afternoon. An entertaining game with plenty of scoring chances. Some of the good new trialists will certainly provide Dave with question marks for selection.
Fans forums do not tell the full story about the movement of players and sometimes can create mischief.
The definitive moment is when the players have actually signed and the squads are announced.

It will be a great shame if Jamie Maxted were to leave City. He has been outstanding for us and it should not come as any surprise to anyone that other clubs would be interested in him. If he were to go, then I would wish him luck, but he might like to consider that his immediate future at such a young age may be best spent at an emerging club, where he can develop his skills and reputation further and where he is looked upon as one of our best players, surely guaranteeed a regular first team place, than at a club like Ramsgate, where he would run the risk of becoming just another squad player, probably having to fight for a place in the team and maybe spending time warming up a sub's bench.
Some of the youngsters in the City squad have come on leaps and bounds in a very short space of time, a clear sign that Dave and his team of coaches, know what they're about, that should tell him something......
So many players appear to want to play for City, that should also tell him something........
Over to you Jamie Maxted.
zhukov

I agree and I would add that what Dave and the players are achieving now is something really worthwhile both for the club, its supporters, the city of Canterbury and themselves as individuals. They are writing tomorrow's history.

Writing tomorrow's history is better than bench warming.

I feel that the player has to do what the player thinks is best for him.
Surely Canterbury and its fans should be supporting Maxted instead of making him feel that his decision has already been made.

Perhaps they should be finding solutions to keep their players and looking into what is making them want to leave!
skipper1

That may be an internal matter for Canterbury, fans cannot do anything but support their team.

I think the general consensus amongst the fans here has been 'oh no' rather than 'oh yes'.

But at the end of the day, yes of course the player should do what he feels is right for him.  You only have one life, and you only get one go.

sensible comment skipper. dave has very large squads in which noone is guarenteed a place football is a fickle game and any player could be replaced at any time. fans expect the best players to be loyal until there not the best players . we will see how the club will be to the players when they get into kent league and money starts getting thrown around. already the club do not treat their players equally they expect the youngsters in the reserves to pay subs and yet don t offer these players a decent level to play at. then when some of these talented youngsters leave( woolcotts , johnsons and others ) its u guys that will give them a hard time
skipper1

Well yes and no, newcity.
The manager needs a sufficient squad and sufficient competition for places, replacement for injuries etc., and the players must accept that.  I can understand young players impatience to play every game in the first team and all that, I would be the same, but also a part of being mature and contributing to the team effort as a whole is to have the patience to know when to wait and when to be impatient.
Some of these so-called better clubs like to sign promising youngsters to prevent anyone else from doing so, then they spend a season on the bench or hovering round the periphery.  For a developing young player it surely must be better to play regularly in a first team, even if rotated.
Plus of course, City is a club on the rise.  I would not be surprised that when we have the football hub in the City, and the security of how well we are being run, we do not pass some of these clubs on the way up.
Not to mention that the players that take part in all of this can rest assured that they will live long as legends in future years.
So it is for the players to weigh up these pros and cons, rather than being hacked off because they are not starting every game in the senior team.

A good deal of sense being spoken here. To be fair to Jamie, he did look to be one of the best players on the field at Ramsgate and probably wouldn't look out of place at that level. If he goes and plays for their first team in the Ryman Premier league then well done and good luck to him...and good on City for developing him to this extent.

Now what we need is the 'tick-in-the-box' for Ridlands Farm and then, answering an earlier point, we'll be well placed to address the reason why players would want to move on from City.
socksy

I can't imagine players would want to leave City because there's anything wrong with the club.  This is purely a situation of a young player being offered the gamble of a jump up to a higher level now, or a natural steady progression with a club he's served well up to now.  None of us would blame him for taking the gamble and I'm sure we'd all wish him the best of luck.  I'm just relieved he's not being linked with Margate though.  That really would be an insult!
karthoarse

An interesting and intelligent debate going here - for once!

I can't really see anyone giving the player a hard time in any of the postings really, as a couple of the contributions have suggested. The overall opinion appears to be that if he goes, we wish him good luck, and if he is a success then credit to Canterbury City for helping him along the way, but really we would like him to stay - no surprise there!

He should just take care, consider wisely and make the best choice for him, and if he goes and it doesn't work out, I for one would welcome him back, at least that way he would have given himself a chance and an opportunity that he might not have had otherwise.

At this level and with this amount of success, it was obvious from day one that City would become an unpaid scouting system for the 'bigger' 'better known' clubs whoever they were, doing their job for them, it's an occupational hazard I am affraid, and could be seen as another measure of the club's success, finding and developing young talented players.

Still hope he stays though........

Yeah, this has been the most prolific thread on this forum that I can remember.  That goes to show the strength of feeling among City fans and our desperation to see those who started the ball rolling continue the fantastic work they did for the club last season.  It's a horrible taste of the reality of football though.

Jamie played for Ramsgate tonight in the friendly against Fisher Athletic.
He played for the first 60 mins before he was substituted.
Had a very good half and had two decent opportunities.
The general impression from Rams fans was very very favourable indeed and they were impressed particularly by his workrate in the first half.
BTW,referee tonight was our own Phil Knight..
Mike13

Well, that's it then I suppose. All the best to you, Jamie. If he really makes it in Ramsgate it's tremendous jump. Would have taken him how many years to achieve that with us?
Let's face it, we're still pretty much at the bottom of the pyramid and what did the word "perspective" mean to us when we were a couple of decades younger? Don't think I even used it back then ...
cityaddick

Dont forget the last time he had a run out for Ramsgate he played for City the following day ... and as it happens we have a game tonight.
karthoarse

Sorry,  no sign of him tonight.
md093834

Seems he's gone straight into the Ramsgate starting 11 although he was substituted after 51 minutes on Saturday. Hope things pick up.
