Richard Baines

Has anyone read the Herne Bay FC Forum lately?
Richard Baines the self appointed authority on all local football matters posted a notice on the Herne Bay forum asking why the rate payers from Herne Bay & Whitstable are being asked to fund the home for Canterbury City FC – it’s nice to know Richard is fully supporting City’s revival. It appears to me Richard’s knowledge of local government finances are as informed as his knowledge of football. Is it any wonder Canterbury City FC keep him as far away from the club as possible.

Re Herne Bay Forum

Hello Binnewith Rules.
There was me thinking the new Canterbury City FC was there for  the people & rate payers  of Canterbury!
My company has been trying help the City since you were reformed !
I did give the club some 250 plus Free keyfobs with your new logo on for the 1st meeting !
And since that day l have been trying to be a Corporate member & sponsor in your match day programme!!
City Award have offerd to Sponsor a Free a Man of the Match Award for your teams or a Player of the Month Award.
I have spoken to DAVE this season informing him that if l  could help him in any way for him to contact me on.
As l have watched  the City since i was about 4 when they played at Bretts corner & then at Kingsmead & l also gave another member of the forum all my old programmes & hand books to the the club
So your wrong about me on the City front you have been talking to Mr Knight to much.
Last years game against my young Uni team was funny as l had several of your Committee members cheering my boys on because they know what l have done for local football, funny that your members wre on my side are we all wrong & your right Binne!
My knowledge of local football is light years in front of your young man but you are right on the local government finances l would have put all the saving into a safe bank in Iceland just like the County council!
Could you or any other members please tell me are any Committee or Oficers of Canterbury City FC involved or Directors of the company called Active Life who who will be running the sports centre at the new City ground!
If you want to have a good chat/beer about the local football or the City please give me a call on 0780 1037 150 would be glad to put you straight on all things that you been told!
I speak to most of the City players when l am out at football ask them what l am like then you might understand young man.
Good luck today to you & the City.
My son in law & my grandson will be there cheering you on like they do each week.
Best wishes to you all
Richard Baines

It's swings and roundabouts anyway.  I lived most of my life on Hales Place, then St Martins Hill.  There was a zero percent chance of the sea flooding my houses, yet some of my rates went towards sea defences in Herne Bay and Whitstable.  I now live in Ashford, but occassionally use Council subsidised facilities in Folkestone, Maidstone and Thanet, yet I pay no rates towards any of these.

There are loads of things we pay taxes towards, but disagree with.  It's swings and roundabouts, though very few swings and roundabouts as leisure facilities are scrapped and built over.

This isn't gonna be just a pitch, stand and bar anyway.  Take a look at the amount of people benefitting from the teams City field each week.  This isn't the joke outfit it used to be, it's proper football, community football, football for everyone.  Did you see the pictures of the special needs team in The Gazette?  That's what this club's about, sport for all.  We may rise through the ranks and eventually line up against Herne Bay and Whitstable or we may not, but this is a bigger issue than crowds and trophies.

I wondered why my key fob broke quickly
OLD MAN

Is this the Richard Baines who said Canterbury City FC wouldn’t win anything with Dave Fairclough as Manager?

I here there is a new plinth being erected for him at the natural history museum, alongside the other dinosaurs.

Hi Old man.
Please get your facts right, never said Dave would never win anything !
Even with you as manager they would have won the league last season !
It's taken you some time to join the fun on the forum!
And i agree with you the companies you mention on the Awards issue do a great job that why they been around as long as City Awards!
This season they should win the leaue as well, because Dave has brought in new players to take the club up to the next level.
Then next season he will have to bring in more new players for the next level & with so many boys/men wanting to joint the City it does make Dave's job easier!
Ghost of hawk.
When i watch City next i bring you a new Key fob! ok
Socksy.
And yes it will be for Kent football to see the City playing against the other senior side & that will bring in monies that they all require to  survive.
I am only going to 2 games this week do you watch any other games in midweek!
Richard
OLD MAN

Richard.
Touched a nerve then, if you look at most Kent web site you will see I contribute on most of them, hopefully with constructive remarks. Most of the comments you have made over the years on web sites seems to criticise anyone who is trying to run a football club. Disregarding Canterbury City;
First it was Herne Bay,
Then Deal Town,
On to Whitstable Town,
Now back to Herne Bay,
Perhaps you should concentrate on the positives occasionally instead of this constant negativity aimed at people trying to do there best for football in the county.

I won't be going to any games.  I only watch City and have no interest in any other local club.  My point was that the kids and adults benefitting from the structure at City are not necessarily from Canterbury.  I bet a large percentage are from outlying areas and further afield.

To be fair to Richard Baines he did indeed give me some programmes and handbooks to pass on to the club. I will hang on to them, along with many other programmes that the club were given following the sad death of a former chairman, until City find a home as tenants of the new football hub wherever that may be.

The programmes that were donated make interesting reading and are gratefully received. What is not so well received is the not very well disguised insinuation concerning Active Life. It is comments like this, I am sure, that caused the concern within the football club around how closely the forum should be connected to the club and resulted in the decision to distance it from these message threads.

As a declared follower of Canterbury City it does Mr Baines no credit to be making comments of this nature whether it be on the City forum or that of any other football club. The council has stated quite clearly that City would be one part of the football hub, not the sole user. As much as I enjoyed my friendly chat in the Plough with Mr Baines the time has come to say enough is enough. Please either put up or shut up. If you have gripes about the football hub and the role of the City Council please address them to the appropriate organisation - don't waste my time having to skim through your postings.

Let's now get back to the whole purpose of this forum - to talk about the development of the new Canterbury City Football Club. Praise where praise is due - otherwise criticism of a constructive nature.
