Now even I remember the Momtaz and Curry Garden sitting side by side and I dont come from canterbury, I come from the posh part of Kent. You could have a pint, go for a curry then more beer and another curry next door and nobody looked at you like some fat drunk greedy bastardo ! I mean we was ... but nobody looked at us as if...? actually ? yeah its just hit home nobody looked at us ...... and SOCKSY as for not being at the same games as you ? I,m at every game ( flowers permitting ) not just the games with a warm bolt hole a few feet away.

| So I was watching from the warmth of the catering area the other week. I DID say it was freezing outside. Anyway, Mawdsley wouldn't say I was watching from the tea hut or whatever, he'd use its proper name. Which is...... Actually, does anybody know what Wally would call the catering facilities at Bridge? There's a prize of a free cuppa from me to the first person to give it its correct Mawdsleyism name. |

335 topics. 2155 posts. And now Socksy you mention that name....
There are some things worth remembering and others not. When the club was reformed I thought we'd be able to forget about that chapter of history completely (well almost). It'll take more than a free tea for me to get over it...... |

mawdsley would call it his tea bar and keep all the takings for himself.
or if you listened to the officials/puppets at the time
he would not call it anything but you know he would have been there 3 hours before the game cleaning it when he'd finished scrubbing the showers |

Unlucky guys, Mawdsley laughingly called the misappropriation of our grandstand a '£100,000 facelift with a glass fronted viewing academy'. That's a restaurant to you and me!
I remember delivering gas cylinders to the stadium at the end of one particular season and there were a load of cowboys pulling apart what was a perfectly adequate stand, sawing wood and more or less hammering the final nails into our club. The bar was seemingly being sub-let to a language school and was full of foreign kids. A nice little earner if you will.
The rest is history, the boot fair money, the Chelsea money etc, but what's risen from the ashes should be appreciated and respected. We need to learn the lessons from our history and never let the club fall into the hands of one man.
