A crushing win for City today but quite frankly Lydd got what they deserved. Had they put the effort they spent in harassing the referee, bickering amongst themselves and flying into dangerous tackles into proper footballing tatics and conduct, they might not have been so embarrased. But they didn't, so they were!!
Maxted with the first early on following a howler from the keeper.
Gough, number two, put through by Read, beat the keeper from a clear offside position, but the Lydd linesman was probably more than 20 yards behind the play, so didn't have a clue.
Read again the provider, with a superb through ball for Gough to make it three.
Change of linesman for Lydd, led to a few City offsides, as the new flag man appeared to know what he was doing.
A couple more chances for Gough, before he bagged City's fourth, being the quickest in the box to a loose ball that had come back off the keeper, following a free kick from Lawford.
Action both ends as, Read had a chance saved, Lydd created their first meaningful effort on the City goal (37 mins approx!), Read almost turned in a Lawford shot that was going wide, a second chance for Lydd (goodness!!), and a good run and cross by Jackson was put out for a corner.
Gough got his fourth and City's fifth afer good work by Read and the pair of them almost combined to get another. In amongst all this action, a Lydd official was sent off after a verbal and finger pointing assault on the referee, don't know why he had to resort to that, the ref had had a pretty innocuous game up to that point, all this and we're still only at half time!!
Number 6 came from a corner, the Lydd keeper tried to paw it out from behind the line but the linesman from Lydd ruled it had crossed the line and the goal was given (see, told you he knew what he was doing!) Lockhart scoring that one, thanks to the official report for that info, still tucking into my half time coffee and hot dog at the time!
Another from Gough made it seven, heading in a McGeehan cross. Credit goes to McGeehan for his whole performance, being as he was continuously targetted by Lydd for most of the game with some pretty bad tackling!
Gough then had one disallowed for offside, and Tuite brought out a good save from the keeper. As City appeared to ease off and made some substitutions, there were chances at both ends and finally Lydd managed a consulation goal. Gough then got his sixth and City's eighth (are you keeping up with this!) after good work by Bonnywell. As the game opened up a bit there were further chances for amongst others Smith, Bonnywell and Tuite, and keeper Wrench made a double save as Lydd attempted to score from a poor City back pass but the ball was eventually scrambled clear. Gower got number nine right at the end prospering from a woefull defensive error by Lydd.
Lydd were a poor advert today for a football team, got what they deserved and it would be nice to think they might have a complete change of attitude when we have to return there for the away league match later in the season. Nice to think, but......... |

| Before anyone says so, I'm not a pussy with a cough and snotty nose, this is serious. Whilst housebound though, I've been putting my time to good use by rearranging the youtube clips to make them more easily accessible. Not exactly Scorcese, but I'm learning. I still don't know how to do links, but if you go to youtube and type in Canterbury City you should stumble across them, all edited and everything. The music on the compilation may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's all I could find with the word City in it and 3mins 40secs long! |

It was quite handy on the compilation that when Danny saves the penno, the song goes; "There's a Black moon tonight". Spooky eh? |
